Shirley C. James' Obituary
Shirley C. James, 87, passed peacefully in her home with her children by her side on Sunday February 8th, 2026. Born September 16, 1938 to the late Harry and Hazel Coufman in Washington Pennsylvania. Shirley attended West Penn School of Nursing earning her RN degree and spent her career working at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh PA. Preceding her in death was her husband of 42 years, David R. James Sr. and an infant son, John T. James III. She is survived by her children, David R. James, Jr (Kathy) of Katy, Texas and Lynn A. Durka (Roger) of Forest City, North Carolina. Shirley has 3 grandchildren, Leigh (Justin), Alyson and Roger Jr. (Miranda) whom she loved dearly. She was also a proud great grandmother to Kiara and Miles. She loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, reading and flowers, especially her roses and orchards. Until her move to Katy Texas in 2020, she was a member of Plum Creek Presbyterian Church. Services are private. Donations in her honor can be sent to Plum Creek Presbyterian Church in Plum Borough Pennsylvania.
