Jerry DeWayne Harrison's Obituary
Jerry DeWayne Harrison, 72, of Kingwood, Texas passed away on Friday, December 19 at the St. Luke’s Medical Center from heart failure. Jerry was born in Wichita Falls, TX to Jerry Leon Harrison and Patricia Skinner Harrison on July 16, 1953. Jerry moved with his parents at a young age to Madison County, Kentucky. After he obtained certifications in drafting and design, he worked in transportation and coal mining as a draftsman and surveyor in Kentucky.
Jerry married Connie Mae Adams on May 1, 1983 in Shelbyville, Texas. After the birth of their first child, the Harrisons moved to Western Kentucky and Jerry transitioned his skills to pipe designer in the Petrochemical industry. Jerry was recognized and respected as a valued mentor for newer employees engaged in drafting and field work in the industry.
Jerry’s love of the outdoors grew upon the move; sharing fishing and hunting activities with his family and friends in the Land Between the Lakes region of Kentucky. After 10 years, the family relocated to Crosby, Texas for new employment. Jerry was active with their two boys in church activities, Scouting, sports and later the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He was also involved in several charitable organizations; including Back to the Wall Cook Team, Huffman Masonic Lodge, Lone Star Dutch Oven Cooking Society and Kid’s Hope.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife Connie, sons Zachary Oscar Harrison and Adam Lee Harrison along with grandchildren. Jerry is also survived by siblings Kenny Harrison, Jackie Stewart, Lynn Hisle, and Teresa Long of Kentucky along with several nieces and nephews. Jerry’s greatest joy was his extended family.
Interment will be at the historic Richmond Cemetery, Richmond Kentucky in the Harrison family plot. A Memorial Gathering will be held January 18th at Strawbridge United Methodist Church in Kingwood, Texas. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is available at Crosby UMC honoring his 25 years of membership and also a fund at Strawbridge UMC to celebrate the future.
