James Lewis "Jim" Salter's Obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of James Lewis “Jim” Salter, who went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 2, 2025 following a brave year-long fight with pancreatic cancer.
Born on December 8,1949, Jim was the son of James M. Salter, Jr and Lynn Salter of White Oak, Texas. He graduated from Gladewater High School in 1968. A few years later, Jim moved to Houston to pursue career opportunities where he lived until the time of his passing.
Jim was always destined for the energy of the big city. He had a passion for new experiences which he loved sharing with his family. A natural salesman, he had a gift for connecting with people and bringing stories that he would share with them to life. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and had a knack for selling just about anything. This allowed him to develop numerous lifelong friendships that he cherished. During a chapter of his life in Florida, he played a key role in securing a major opportunity for his company to work with NASA on the Challenger Space Shuttle project. It was his determination, persistence, and exceptional skill in sales that made this partnership possible. This is one of the proudest moments of his professional life.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Lynn Salter; his youngest brother, Bobby Joe Salter, all of his grandparents and Bradley Lane Brummel, Brenda’s son. Also preceding in death was his beloved Sir Winston, his loyal Yorkie companion. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Brenda, who cared for him tirelessly over the past year. His Diva Yorkie, Lady Anna Bella. Daughters Krista Morris and Larisa Pearson along with her husband Monte; Daughter Brook McConnell and her husband Gary; Brother Malcolm Salter and his wife Pam. Sister-in-law Vickie Boyd and husband Trent. Sister-in-law Sandi Threeton and husband Mike. Sister-in-law Terry Waguespack and husband Duane. Jim was also a very proud grandfather to Shelbi Pearson and fiancé Colten “Buzzy” Caviness, Adyson Ratley, Ella Ratley, Anna Claire Brummel, Aubrey Brummel, Beau Brummel and Maddox McConnell. Many very special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a large circle of dear friends who meant the world to him.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to WJE Associates for giving Jim a job he truly loved. We are especially grateful for their support, both in allowing him to continue working after his diagnosis and for standing by him when he could no longer do so. Your kindness and generosity meant so much to him and to us. We would also like to thank the wonderful neighbors of Twin Lakes for their thoughtful gestures, meals, and ongoing support throughout this time.
Most of all, we are deeply thankful to everyone who has lifted Jim and our family up in prayer. Your love and encouragement have brought us strength and comfort.
Jim was a proud Salter man, deeply devoted to his family and loyal to those he loved. He was a member of the Memorial Church of Christ in Houston, and you can rest assured that if he was unable to attend in person due to his illness he was watching online and making sure his kids and grandkids had the link to watch as well. He fought with great courage and determination against the terrible burden of cancer. While his passing leaves an immense void in our lives, we find comfort in knowing his suffering has ended. He is now reunited with loved ones who went before him and is resting in the eternal peace of our Lord and Savior.
A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday July 12, 2025, at Memorial Church of Christ in Houston, Tx. Visitation with family will begin at 2:00pm and Services at 3:00pm with a meal to follow provided by his wonderful Church family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Memorial Church of Christ Building Fund at 900 Echo LN, Houston, Tx 77024 or go to www.mcoc.org.
