Gail Barnhouse's Obituary
Gail Barnhouse, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, went home to be with our Lord on February 1, 2025, in Houston, TX. She was born in New Iberia, LA, on October 27, 1949, to Rita and Willie Gary. A proud graduate of New Iberia High School, she went on to marry the love of her life, Frank Barnhouse, in 1972, and they shared a beautiful life together until his passing in 2017.
Gail’s life was one of service, love, and unwavering kindness. She dedicated many years to Scouting and the PTA, shaping young lives as the co-leader of Girl Scout Troops 3371 and 3144. Once her children were older, she embarked on a successful career in sales at Foley’s and later Macy’s, where her warm and friendly nature made her a favorite among colleagues and customers alike.
A gifted crafter, crocheting was her passion, and she found joy in creating beautiful blankets, which she lovingly gifted to family and friends. But beyond her talents, Gail was a social soul, a beacon of warmth, who never met a stranger. Her heart was vast, and she embraced everyone she met with love and acceptance.
She leaves behind a family who adored her:
• Her daughters, Alison Barnhouse, Opel and her husband Charles Fults, and Angela Hudson and her husband Doug • Her son, Jason Barnhouse and his wife Roxana • Her cherished grandchildren: Jonathon, Kaitlin, & William Fults; Corbin Varvares; Morgan, Mason, & Matthew Barnhouse; Kimberly & Cody Wilson; Alissa and her husband Steve Clarke; and Aeden & Edwin Hudson • Her sister, Linda Stelly, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins • She also held Brandy Sutton, Chris Grant, and Dustin Grant and their families close to her heart, considering them her own • And to the entire Cornman Clan, she was known as Mama K, a title she wore with love and pride.
Though she has left this world, she is now reunited in heaven with those who went before her: her beloved husband Frank, her parents Rita & Willie Gary, her in-laws Amelia & Frank “Barney” Barnhouse, her sisters-in-law Francis Horn & Louise Parrott, her brother-in-law James Barnhouse and his wife Judy, and her brother-in-law Wayne Stelly. Most bittersweet of all, she is reunited with her best friend and sister in spirit, Cheryl Cornman, along with many other family members and dear friends who were waiting with open arms.
Gail’s legacy is one of unconditional love, generosity, and a life well-lived. Her kindness, humor, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A memorial picnic and celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. Until then, may we honor her memory by spreading the same love, warmth, and kindness that she so effortlessly gave to everyone around her.
