Derek Marshall Stott's Obituary
Derek Marshall Stott 1976 - 2025 Derek Marshall Stott, 49, passed away in March 2025 at his home in Houston, Texas. Derek was raised in Morganville, New Jersey and attended elementary and middle school there. Growing up, he was involved in Boy Scouts and played Little League baseball for many years. He moved to Houston, Texas where he attended high school, graduating in 1994 from the DeBakey High School for Health Professions. He had great musical ability and was in band in middle and high school. He played several instruments and even taught himself how to play guitar. Derek was very active and competed in marathons and bike rides, including the Houston Marathon and MS 150. He could learn and master just about anything. Derek attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY to study engineering. He joined Alpha Chapter Theta Xi where he became part of a lifelong family, and regularly attended events and gatherings with his “brothers”. During his coursework, he followed in his father’s footsteps by completing internships with both Westinghouse Electric and Caterpillar. After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in May 1999, Derek worked at L3Harris in Palm Bay, Florida for four years until he decided to pursue an MBA from Pennsylvania State University’s Smeal College of Business. During that time, he completed an internship with RLW, Inc., and following graduation in May 2005, held the role of VP of Operations and CFO for three years. He then spent ten years working for Dresser-Rand, his last role being Director of Operations – Distributed LNG. He enjoyed working and kept climbing the ladder of success. Derek went on to hold several other positions in the power generation industry, mainly LNG, which is a passion he shared with his father. In his free time, Derek always stayed busy. He loved spending time at his father’s log cabin in the Adirondack Mountains and spent many weekends in Matagorda, Texas, fishing and hanging out with friends. He was an amazing cook and loved preparing meals for friends and family. Derek shared his love for cycling, boating, skiing, music, traveling, and the Houston Astros with his son Max. He also valued his friendships with people he connected with throughout his life journey and stayed in contact with them no matter how many years had passed. Derek is survived by his son, Maxwell Stott of State College, Pennsylvania; stepmother Nancy Stott of Albrightsville, Pennsylvania; sisters, Leigh Spencer of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Leslie Adams of Katy, Texas, and Megan Stott of Arcadia, Florida; nieces Molly Adams and Jenna Adams; nephew Jace Stott; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Hugh Robert Stott, and his mother, Justine Parazynski.
